Things to do

Enjoy a perfectly relaxing break at Gill Brow Farm, nestled in the heart of the Lake District’s Newlands Valley, a place of outstanding natural beauty. It is quintessential Beatrix Potter countryside and near to Braithwaite, one of the Lake District’s most picture-postcard villages. Buttermere is also on our doorstep and is equally picturesque.

Gill Brow Farm is also only 15 minutes from Keswick, of one of the Lake District’s most popular market towns. A great place to join the bustle as you browse independent shops, enjoy a tipple or a bite to eat in one of the many tearooms, pubs and restaurants or visit the local Theatre By the Lake.

Being in the Lake District, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you don’t have far to go to enjoy walks and hikes in beautiful countryside. Step out the door from Gill Brow Farm and you will enjoy glorious scenery all around and an abundance of walks for all abilities. Whinlatter, the Lake District’s mountain forest, is also nearby for forest hikes or mountain-bike rides and lots more for all the family. We’ve put together a collection of ideas for things to see and do while staying with us. Click here to find out more.

Visit the last working slate mine in England. At Honister Slate Mine they have been quarrying for Westmorland Green Slate since 1728. The mine is located close to Gill Brow Farm and there is plenty to see and do including a visit to the cafe, shop, or for the more adventurous there is a Via Ferrata which follows the original miners' route to the top of Fleetwith Pike.
